Each year SJ Dance Studio holds an end of year concert for all parents/families to see what their children have been working on throughout the year in their weekly classes. It gives the students the opportunity to showcase their best work and gain experience in performing Infront of hundreds of people. The opportunity to perform in a concert is very exciting, empowering and can help build students confidence. We love giving all students the chance to perform for their family and friends in this supportive and fun environment and encourage even our youngest and newest performers to be involved.
All students participate in our End of Year Concert and students work on these routines each week in class, developing their skills in the process and learning the importance of rehearsal, commitment, performance techniques and teamwork.
In terms of attendance, it is very important that students do not miss any of their scheduled classes between now and concert time so they can spend their rehearsal time together to perform their routines, feel confident and look amazing. Of course, this is only if it can’t be helped and in line with studio guidelines. If for any reason your child will miss a number of their regular classes in Term 4, we ask that you contact reception to let us know in advance.
If there is any reason why your child will not be able to perform at the concert on the dates and times provided, please let us know so we can make amendments to the class routines involving them.

On concert day, all of the students will be staying backstage with us for the duration of the concert. Students need to have their hair and makeup done and stockings on before being dropped off. Students are required to arrive by 4:00pm on the concert day. Backstage doors will open at 3:30pm.
During the dropping off times, we ask that one parent/guardian comes with their child into the drop off area (you will be directed once inside the venue). Students will need to know what allocated group they are in. See the CONCERT GROUPS & ORDER button below.
All students will need to be picked up from the drop off point after the show. Students will stay in this location and need to have their name marked off by their group leader/teacher.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask us. We will ensure that we talk you through the concert day procedure again in the weeks leading up to the concert.
SECURITY & STUDENT SAFETY
To help with student organisation and safety, all students will be put into an allocated 'group’. Please see the "show specific info" on this site and make sure your child knows what group they are in.
As always, the safety of our dance family is our #1 priority. On concert day all students will need to be signed in / out of security lists to gain access backstage. All backstage helpers will be issued with security passes that are required to be worn at all times. Only SJ Dance staff and registered parent helpers are permitted backstage. We are unable to run messages or food to students, so please make sure they have everything before they come backstage for rehearsal and the recital/concert. There will be a someone at the door for the entire day checking passes. We do this to protect the students, please respect this policy. Please try not to bring anything valuable, especially electronic devices. Mobile phones are not to be taken backstage or in the changing areas during the concert. Our studio will take no responsibility if an item is damaged, misplaced, lost or stolen.
Students will need to be signed into the venue when arrived and signed out when leaving.
If you are under the age of 13 your Parent/Guardian MUST sign you in and out of the venue. Once signed in you will not be able to leave the premises for the duration of the concert. All parents must pick up their child at the designated time for their age group. If you have any questions on the night of rehearsal or concert, you need to phone this number – 0431 230 410 .
MEDICAL CONDITIONS
If your child has any Medical Conditions that may require attention whilst in our care or are carrying any medication with them, please notify our supervisors when you sign in.
WHAT TO WEAR
UNDERWEAR
Please be aware that under stage lights, dark coloured or patterned underwear does not look good under light coloured costumes. Please make sure your child is wearing flesh coloured underwear.
HAIR
Required hair for each rotuine will be on the Costume Booklet.
Please note, for boys neat and tidy hair is all that is required. No colours or crazy hairstyles please.
MAKEUP
Stage makeup needs to be heavier than normal day makeup.
Beginners do not need to wear full stage makeup – However we do recommend red lipstick and some blush so they do not look washed out on stage with the stage lights. Any questions about makeup for our beginners please speak to your teacher or contact us.
Apply make-up base. Foundation needs to be darker than what their normal shade would be. Apply pinkish brown tone blush to cheekbones.
Apply pink/brown eye shadow on lid – work from the inside corner along the lash line. You may also like to use white under the brow to highlight.
Define the eyes with black eyeliner pencil. Use along the top and bottom lash lines.
Add lots of black mascara to both top and bottom lashes.
Apply red lipstick.
Please note, boys are not required to wear makeup.
JEWELLERY AND NAIL POLISH
No Jewellery is to be worn (including earrings), please leave all jewellery at home. Also, please remove all nail polish.
WHAT TO BRING
All children must bring a clearly labelled bag with extra hair spray, gel, hair elastics, bobby pins, and safety pins.
Please ensure any medication required is packed and clearly labelled with instructions.
Your makeup must also be packed and clearly labelled as well as your dance shoes, stockings, socks and dance underwear.
Don’t forget your costumes too! This year we will be putting costumes into an already named costume bag for each child, they will then need to collect them from the studio.
If you have a portable costume rack, please bring it as hanging space is quite limited. We also ask that your child brings their own small floor mat to sit on.
We recommend setting up your child’s area for the concert with the below;
- Clothes rack for your child costumes or dream duffle (Costumes in order for any quick changes)
- Floor rug for your child to sit on and have their own area in dressing room
- Bucket for your child to put costumes straight into when finished their routine so that way no costumes go missing.
FOOD AND DRINK - Costumes are easily ruined by food and drink stains. Students are not permitted to leave backstage area so please pack enough food and drink for the entire time. It is important they have something nutritious to keep their energy up as well as something that it’s messy that it can ruin their costumes
– NO nuts or nut products ALLOWED. Please also pack a water bottle (ensure it is named). Children are discouraged from bringing any valuables including phones, iPods, iPads and laptops as the venue and SJ Dance Studio will not take responsibility for any items lost, damaged or stolen.
PACKING CHECKLIST
It is suggested that students bring all of their belongings in a small plastic box. It is much easier than rummaging through a bag. Please write their names all over the box and on everything that they bring, every year we have so many pairs of dance shoes and uniforms lost that are never claimed. Please use the following checklist:
Stockings and dance underwear (wear on arrival)
Costumes
Concert t-shirt
Shoes
Makeup for touch-ups
Extra bobby pins, safety pins, hair spray, elastics
Water, water and more water
Students may want to bring a small quiet game, book or something to keep them amused.
Costumes are an exciting and important part of our End of Year Concerts. Click here to view all the information you need to know in regards to costumes.
